I think they really should have wrote the CLOWN Prince of Dirt over the window of Christian Rayburn's Late Model! How scary to think that here in March of 2001 I'm creating a D-R-I-V-E-R page on Christian. To me he still should be that curious, short lil kid that was looking up at me asking questions back in 1997, but now here exactly four years later - he's on the track... racing.
But even with his dad's old hand me down driving uniform on, he's still the same Christian I met four years ago... still shakes your hand upon greeting him, still big eyed to the world and still just as crazy about racing...
On the track he still has lots to learn, but this year appears different from the more for fun appearance last year, he's working hard, concentrating and learning... it won't be long until he has it figured out and is in the heat of the battle...
and that's when the real fun will begin... because now there is no doubt Christian Rayburn is for real... he's going to be a great racer, a true character of class and a fan favorite...
but even when he's standing holding a World 100 trophy high in the air - he's still going to be that lil kid trying to outsmart me, just like I'm challenged to outsmart him.
